Depart at 05h30 for Rietvlei Nature Reserve (breakfast included) for a 2 hours game drive. Followed by a visit to the Cullinan diamond mine and lunch in Cullinan. Then onto the Union buildings, South Africa’s parliamentary seat. The day ends with a visit to the Voortrekker monument, arguably the most visited monument in South Africa. Return to the place of departure by 17h00.
Depart at 08:30 for the Lesedi Cultural Village that depicts the life style of five of South Africa’s traditional homesteads. Lunch is based on food dishes of these five cultures. This is followed by a visit to the Sterkfontein Caves where some of the earliest examples of Hominids were found, including the world famous Mrs Ples and Little Foot. Return to the Misty Hills Hotel by 17h00.
Start early at the Lion Park. Play with cubs and feed giraffes and see other beautiful South African mammals. Followed by a tour of Soweto. Lunch will be in Vilakazi street, the only street in the world with the homes of two noble peace prize winners, Desmond Tutu and Nelson Mandela. We visit their homes as well as the Hector Peterson memorial and the Regina Mundi church for a historical feel of Soweto. Sleep at Gold Reef City.
Visit the Apartheid museum and Gold Reef City. You will be guided through the City to see the pouring of gold, the gum boot dances and other interesting sights. The afternoon you can spend at your own leisure.
The visit is to the Museum Africa is the first of the day. A worthwhile museum that depicts many and varied aspects of the whole of Africa, and it includes a collection of all “the firsts”, inventions and the like. This if followed by a tour of the SAB World of Beer that includes 2 drafts of beer. Then have a look at the view from the top of the Carlton Centre, the tallest structure in Africa. The tour ends and we will take you where you need to be within the Johannesburg area.
